Skills Qualifications It is important that the people running activities for our members are capable, to support the safe operation of adventurous activities Scouting has a process of training, skills assessment and recognition. Currently Scouts Australia is working towards skills training and assessment which aligns with national accreditation but at present the system aligns with local and state policies. Who is qualifiedScouting qualifications and skills are recorded on the NSW branch system and are recorded on members personnel records. To ensure access to this information South Metropolitan Region publishes the list of Activities Skills on www.southmetscouts.com. Getting QualificationsThe process of gaining qualifications and the levels of qualifications themselves vary depending on the skills area. In summary qualification the process follows the path shown in the diagram below.
Qualifications are often dependant on a current first aid certificate and are only current for a three year period, expiring if not renewed in that time. Qualifications can be kept current by remaining active (remember to keep a log), supporting activities and training. Instructors are expected to regularly attend activities committees which maintain standards and assist the process of making policy. For specific requirements refer to activity policies in the Information and Organisation handbook.
