First Aid

All members of the movement are encouraged to have first aid skills and one of the best ways to achieve this is by attending a Workcover approved Course provided by an approved First Aid Training Provider. 

A recognised First Aid certificate is required to hold qualifications in most activity areas and is essential for “activity leaders”. 

South Metropolitan Region have a team of “scout” trainers and assessors who are qualified to run St John accredited courses.

Senior Courses and 1 Day Senior Refresher Course

This course is the standard St John Ambulance first aid course designed to impart knowledge, skills and attitudes deemed necessary for giving competent care to the ill or injured until medical aid arrives. Courses are Workcover approved (lasting 3 years).  It is possible to do a 1 Day Refresher for the Senior Course the only prerequisite being that your Senior Certificate must be still current to do the Course

Prerequisites

Minimum age for participants is 14 years.  Current Senior Certificate for 1 day refresher

Duration

2 days (18 hours) or 1 day for refresher.

Location

Senior Courses are mostly run at the Region’s Activities Centre at Bankstown, 68 Restwell St Bankstown.

 

St John Remote Area First Aid Course

This course is designed to meet the first aid needs of bushwalkers, climbers, canyoners, cavers, 4WD enthusiasts, outdoor/adventure instructors, wilderness guides, scout leaders, or people who work and live in remote locations. The Remote course teaches long term casualty care & management, moving and sheltering sick or injured people. Also the sort of illness, injuries or problems a First Aider can encounter and have to manage in remote situations.

A Remote Qualification last 3 years but are not Workcover approved.

The Course is run at Earlwood Scout Hall in Joy Ave utilises an area of adjoining Bushland for practical work.

 

First Aid Instruction for Cubs And Scouts

One of the Scout Regions Trainer/Assessors who is also a Cub Leader is available for EAR/CPR Demonstrations, First Aid Instruction and assessing in Cub and Scout badge Work.
