Equipment: Nil

A variation of Battleships

Vikings must touch a nominated part of the longboat (hall) or do the nominated action. Last Viking to do action is out

Bow Front of boat

Stern Rear of boat

Starboard Right hand side

Port Left hand side

Chieftans Coming stand to attention

Climb the Mast action of climbing mast

Man the Oars sit cross legged on floor facing stern with hands on oar shaft

Arrows away Shelter, curled up on floor with hands over head

Hit the decks Drop to the floor

7:15pm

Ice Skating

Equipment: Sheets of paper

Two teams at each end of hall. On ‘go first team members step onto skates (piece of paper for each foot) and race around circle. On return to team, skates are passed to next in line. Skates must remain on skates at all times. First team home wins

7:30pm

Knotting: Sheet bend

Tell yarn describing the long boat with the great sail made of a single sheet and how the Vikings travelled vast distances in the boats. The knots used to hold the sail were slipped through small holes in the corners and became known as sheet bends

Vad ar jag?

Equipment: Chalk/blackboard or paper

Variation of Celebrity Heads

Swedish style, only answers are ja (yes) and ne (no – pronounced ney)

Use winter/polar/Scandinavian images eg snowman, polar bear, ABBA, Saab, Santa Claus

Craft: Reindeer

Song: Norwegian Cuckoo Song

Supper: Knickebrod och Ost

Pronounced k-nicker-br-erd – o- osht, this is cracker bread with cheese. Use Salada biscuits with Jarlesberg or Swedish lo-col cheese for an authentic touch.
