1st HURSTVILLE CUB SCOUT PACK

Theme: Newspaper

7.00 Opening

7.10 Swat the Fly: One person is chosen to be "it". They are given a rolled up newspaper. They have to hit the other Cub Scouts below the knee with the newspaper. When a Cub Scout is touched they must sit down on the spot. Another Cub Scout is chosen to free the flies, which is done by tagging any Cub Scout sitting down. The Cub Scout is then free to continue to run around. If the person chosen to free the flies is hit they cannot free any more flies and the game ends.

7.20 Newspaper Raft Spread newspapers in the middle of the floor to make a "raft" just big enough for all the Cub Scouts to stand on. The Cub Scouts run around the hall until the whistle is blown then all run to get on the raft. Any personnot on the raft is out. Some paper is removed each time until there is only enough for one Cub Scout to stand on.

7.30 Fishy Fingers: Each Cub Scout tears the outline of a fish from a sheet of newspaper. No drawing. No knives or scissors. Best shape wins.

7.40 Fish Flap: Two lines marks the sides of a river. On signal each Cub Scout starts fanning his paper fish- using a newspaper or piece of cardboard as a fan - to blow it across the river without touching the fish. (Sixes can compete as a relay)

7.50 Chopstick Relay: 2 newspaper batons, a plate and a tennis ball for each six.

Give the first member of each team 2 batons and a ball. Place a plate at other end of hall in front of each team. On the word "go" the ball has to be propelled along the ground to the plate, then lifted onto the plate in some way using the batons only. When this is completed the player grabs the ball and batons, runs back and passes them to number two.

8.00 Express Parcel: Give each Six a newspaper, sticky tape and string. See which Six can do the neatest job of wrapping up their members ready for mailing.

8.10 Great Wall of China: Newspaper rolled in to balls. 15 per six.

Cub Scouts line up in relay formation at one end of hall. Balls of newspaper at other end.

First in line runs and picks up a ball, runs back to their six, and tags the next person.

They then begin to build a wall of bricks behind their six. Each Cub Scout adds their brick to the wall. First six to successfully build a wall wins.

8.20 Ball-in-the-bin: For a tidy ending, collect all the bits of paper from the games and roll them into a ball held by sticky tape Cub Scouts are divided into two teams and two base or goal lines are drawn. A goalie for each team goes behind the opposite goal lines, holding a large box. Each team tries to get the ball into their goal, batting it from cub to cub with the palm of the hand. The goalie may help by running behind the baseline holding up the box. If the ball touches the ground it is thrown in again from the centre.

8.25 Closing Parade
