Meeting; Thailand

5.00pm Opening Malu

5.05pm Game: Silkworm Race Kirrang

Divide Joeys into four even teams and each are given a cotton wool

ball and a straw. The idea is to get their cotton wool ball to the end of

the hall and back.

5.10 Cooking: Rice Crispy Cakes (Chocolate Crackles) Yara

Divide Joeys in half and make two lots of Crackle mix. Joeys can do the mixing and have the parent helpers spoon into the patty cases and place in fridge. These will then be given out at the end of the meeting.

5.20 Game:Tropical Rainstorm Aquila

Place the Joeys in a circle and explain to them that we are going to recreate a tropical rainstorm. The leader starts and the i oeys will follow one by one until the whole circle is doing the same. The actions are as follows:-

1 . Rub hands together - Wind

2. Tap two fingers on palm of hand - Raindrops

3. Clap hands together gently - Rain becoming heavier

4. Pat hands on knees - Strong Rain

If time permits you can do these things in reverse to show the stort,n calming down.

5.30 Craft: Musical Rice Instruments Malu

Each Joey to decorate a polystyrene cup as they prefer. A small

amount of rice is placed in each and a lid (paper towel or tissue paper) is placed over the top. Use either a elastic band, glue or tape to secure. Play away - Gently

5.40 Game: Rice Grab Orana

Joeys form four even teams and stand in each corner of the hall. A pile of rice is placed in the centre of the hall and each Joey scout is given a paddle pop stick. The idea is to collect as many grains of rice as they can and return to their team with them without dropping any. Any dropped rice needs to be picked up without using their hands, if possible,and they can carry no more then five grains of rice at a time.

Elephants Mammoths were closely related to our cuurent living elephants the Asian and Indian. Unlike the African elephant only the male Asian elephant have tusks. Their brains are larger than any other mammals at birth and they have a very strong sense of smell. They only eat vegetables and grasses and only eat 1.5% of their body weight each day. le 3 kilos a day for and elephant weighing 200 kilos.

Asian elephants are becoming endangered as there is up to 5 1,000 Asian elephants to 5 1 0,000 Affican elephants.

Food The main food source is rice and fresh fruit and vegetables as it is easy grown and maintain by the family. The Thai people also preserve their food and store it use later on - in winter months. This is done by drying, pickling in vinegar, making jams and chutneys and smoking.

Thailand lies between the China Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Sapphires and Rubies are found there.

Thailand is shaped like and elephants head.

Over 5 million people visit Thailand each year.

The capital is Bangkok and over 6 million people live there.

Silk is produced there.

The James Bond Movie - The Man With The Golden Gun was filmed there.

Orchids are the most common flower.
